The HumanAI Team Presents Project Advances at ICCHP 2026 and Co-Organizes Session on GenAI and Cognitive Accessibility
Members of the HumanAI project team recently traveled to Brno, Czech Republic, to participate in the International Conference on Computers Helping People with Special Needs (ICCHP 2026), one of the premier international events in assistive technologies and digital inclusion.
Throughout the conference, HumanAI maintained a strong presence across several key activities:
Young Researchers Consortium (YRC): Juan Broto, an early-career researcher from our team at UCM, participated in the YRC to discuss his ongoing work, receive feedback from international experts, and build collaborative networks with European research groups.
Special Thematic Session (STS): Rémi Cardón and Virginia Francisco organized the STS titled “GenAI for Cognitive Accessibility: Plain Language and Inclusive User Interaction”, bridging Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). The session focused on designing and evaluating generative AI systems that are accessible, ethical, and useful for people with cognitive disabilities—ranging from text simplification and Easy-to-Read formats to adaptive user interface design.
Presentation of Project Outcomes: The team showcased multiple project achievements, including prompting strategies for Easy-to-Read standards compliance, innovative ideas for designing accessible generative AI interfaces, and a framework for adaptive interfaces aimed at reducing cognitive load.
Our participation in ICCHP 2026 reinforces HumanAI’s commitment to advancing genuinely inclusive, accessible, and human-centered artificial intelligence.
